national aquarium anniversary series

anniversary series
company: National Aquarium (school project)
year: 2018
audience: families, those who enjoy learning about marine wildlife, and tourists in visiting the area
concept
When I was presented this assignment, I knew I wanted to make an icon that was eyecatching and identifiable. I also wanted the poster to reflex the aquarium and bring to light what the aquarium really cares about: conservation.

The National Aquarium’s “star child” is a rescued sea turtle which they named Calypso. According to the Aquarium’s website, Calypso lost her left front flipper due to an infection, which made her “non releasable”; meaning she could not be released back into the wild. She was re-homed at the aquarium in 2002 and has become an animal ambassador
ever since.

I had decided to bring Calypso into the spotlight by making her the “0” in “40”. Inspired by the Pixar movie Finding Nemo, she is surrounded by the suggestion of coral reefs far below on the aquarium floor.
